How they met

Tom and Stephanie met on a night out with mutual friends. “We ended up talking all night, but although he was very sweet and charming, he definitely wasn’t my usual type,” Stephanie admits. “But we got on really well, so we exchanged numbers, and the following week Tom came to visit me at university, and things progressed naturally from there.”

The proposal

Tom whisked Stephanie away on a surprise trip to Paris for his big moment. “Unknown to me, he carried the ring around all day, hoping to propose at one of the famous landmarks, but they were all packed with tourists, which made him uneasy,” Stephanie recalls. “He eventually proposed just as we were about to go out for dinner at a Michelin- starred restaurant, getting down on one knee as we were leaving our hotel  room. I was shocked and utterly delighted.”

The bride’s outfit

Fashionista Stephanie chose an elegant Claire Pettibone design from Carina Baverstock Couture. “I fell in love with Claire Pettibone’s designs when I spotted them online, and once I’d tried the dress on, I never looked back,” The Champagne lace dress featured cap sleeves, intricate beading and a vintage- inspired floral trim on the back. “I loved every minute wearing it, and felt so glamorous.” Stephanie finished her look with a Jenny Packham headpiece and diamond earrings.

The groom’s outfit

Tom enlisted his dad’s help with his outfit, and settled on a bespoke three-piece suit in Air Force blue. “Tom and his dad have great taste, and went to PJ Robinson and Sons in Alcester – a proper old-school family tailor,” Stephanie explains. He also wore a tie from TM Lewin, and shoes from Reiss.

The bridesmaids

Stephanie chose four bridesmaids – three friends and Tom’s sister – along with Tom’s niece and nephew as flowergirl and pageboy. The girls wore nude one-shoulder dresses with delicate flower detailing from Fever Designs. “The dress suited all of my bridesmaids’ different skin tones and figures,” says Stephanie.

The ceremony

Tom and Stephanie were married in an outdoor humanist ceremony at Clavelshay Barn – a beautiful rural venue in Somerset. “My younger brother walked me down the aisle, and did a great job of keeping me relaxed and calm,” Stephanie says. “Two of my dearest friends did a reading, which they’d written especially for us – it was touching to the point of tears.”

The flowers

Stephanie’s talented friend Chrissie put together the beautiful floral displays, incorporating English garden roses, peonies, muscari and ranunculus in shades of vintage lilac, pink, cream, blue and yellow. “They were the perfect splash of colour for our country-themed day,” Stephanie explains.

The reception

Stephanie and Tom’s 100 guests were treated to a slap-up hog roast, accompanied by stuffing, braised red cabbage, seasonal vegetables, dauphinoise potatoes and scrumpy sauce. “Everyone got stuck right in, and my friend’s Australian boyfriend even finished off the trotters!” laughs Stephanie. A three-piece jazz band, Barnone, played during the meal, before live band Snappa took over for the evening. The couple chose Wonderful Wonderful by Motown band The Tymes for their first dance. “My dad was a member of the band, but passed away when I was 18, so it was a beautiful and extremely sentimental tribute to him,” Stephanie explains.

The details

The flower arrangements formed the focal point of Stephanie and Tom’s country tea party wedding. “They made the day and set the scene beautifully,” says Stephanie. The long trestle tables were draped with hand-stitched tablecloths, and Tom’s sister made a map-varnished suitcase, welcome sign and menu blackboard.

The cake

“Our cake was delicious and such a steal – it was made by Living Pretty and was a bargain £150,” Stephanie says.

The honeymoon

Stephanie and Tom blew the budget on a break to Japan, where they watched sumo, snorkelled and had hot spring baths.
