Princess Diana Wedding Day Jewelry
It’s a lovely touch that Diana’s sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, will wear the late princess’s wedding earrings to William and Kate’s big day.
The diamond drop earrings were the “something borrowed” worn by Diana to marry Charles and were seen in all their glory when the couple kissed on the Buckingham Palace balcony 30 years ago.
The priceless jewels have been especially flown back from America, where they featured in the exhibition Diana: A Celebration. Now at Union Station museum and gallery in Kansas City, the display also includes the late princess’s wedding dress and other items from her life.
They once belonged to Frances Shand Kydd — Diana’s mother — who died in 2004. Each has a central pear-shaped diamond surrounded by almost 50 smaller diamonds.
William has said that he wants his late mother to share in his wedding day. All of the Spencer family, including
Diana’s other sister Lady Jane Fellowes and brother Earl Spencer, who gave the moving eulogy at her funeral, will also want to make sure that she has not been forgotten at such an important royal occasion.
Lady Sarah remains close to both William and Harry. William stayed at her home in Grantham during a visit to Lincolnshire last year, where she once served as the High Sheriff of the county.
