Watch:Inside GABRIELLE UNION AND DWAYNE WADE’S Honeymoon

We imagine that Gabrielle Union has been wanting to make a major hair change for a while — after all, she wouldn’t be the first bride to refuse to touch her hair until after she walked down the aisle. But now that she’s back from her (frankly, envy-inducing) honeymoon, it appears she couldn’t wait to rock a new and unexpected look.

Fresh from the Maldives and Seychelles, the star and her new husband Dwyane Wade resurfaced in NYC to celebrate the latest edition in his watch collection for Hublot. And we noticed a few noteworthy things about the newlywed. First: She had that post-nuptial glow. Second: She was wearing a head-snapping slinky silver cutout gown. Third: Her new do.

In addition to the bangs, Union showed off a more auburn hair color with lighter red highlights throughout. We suspected the tweaks might be “one night only,” but her hairstylist Larry Sims tells PEOPLE they’re the real deal. “We wanted to create something fresh and sexy after the honeymoon,” he says. “Her side-swept bangs were inspired by New York Fashion Week. They are young, chic and rockstar!” (That’s him with his client and her new bangs, below! He tells us he used Go Pro Gro Creme Oil and Got2b Guardian Angel Flat Iron Balm to get her hair exactly right.)

Though her hair was new, Union remained true to her favored smoky eye and nude pout (which we also have our suspicions about — it might beNeutrogena’s “Rich Raisin”). And she kept her new wedding band under wraps, though she got Wade to show off a new piece of bling.

Loving the new do?
