Fun Honeymoon Tidbits

The honeymoon may not be something that every single couple in the world elects to undergo, but it’s certainly common enough! Starting only about two hundred years ago, the custom has evolved from a simple tour of the visits to friends and family after the ceremony to a full-blown, exotic odyssey to places halfway across the globe. What began in Britain is now an international phenomenon, a superpower of human culture that both defines and shapes the way that we perceive intimate human relationships; here are some of the fun facts about one of our newest and yet also one of our most powerful customs as a people.

It’s a business, baby

It’s not surprise at all; there is a lot of money to be made in the organization and execution of a successful honeymoon. It can easily take more than a couple of thousand dollars just to get the very idea of a honeymoon off the ground and scrape the ceiling of realization; at the end of the day, those thousands of dollars just may seem like little more than courtesy tips in comparison. Altogether, the honeymoon industry itself is able to generate several billions of dollars in profit, every single year. To be exact, eight billion dollars are generated by the industry that specializes in putting couples on planes after they smooch. The average couple, on their honeymoon, generally is going through the experience in a state that’s essentially characterized by their hormones on steroids; in this rabid, love-saturated mania, checking accounts become little more than endless pools of inconsequential potpourri to pull out and throw into the air in celebration of the couple’s union. The average couple is likely to spend over three times the money on their honeymoon that they will on any other vacation in their entire lives!

Home is not where the honeymoon is

Less than half of all couples going on their honeymoons will actually elect to have the experience in the same country that they’ve been married in; in truth, over sixty percent of all couples will actually choose to go somewhere exotic, immersing themselves in the romantic euphoria of international escape!
